My AC was aftermarket, so I didn’t have to install/replace any controls or components. My experience:
1. No, the dash controls were not part of the AC in my truck.
2. Yes, I still have a defroster and heater.
3. No links that I know of, but I didn't need any. My only concern was releasing any gasses into the atmosphere, but the system was so old that there wasn't any refrigerant left.
4. You'll have the compressor, its mounting bracket, the fan belt, and the lines going from the compressor to the unit in the cab. This is going from memory, though; it's probably been five years since I removed mine.
Sounds like busboy had a different experience, though. The "fun" of these trucks is that they're all different! Also, once you remove the lines, you'll have a couple of holes in the firewall. Free heat/noise from the engine bay (that's a feature)!

Your post has no bearing on the original question since your system was aftermarket and his is factory installed. Did you even read his post?

Yes, I did read it. Why the attack? I clearly said mine was aftermarket. I clearly said your experience was different. From now on, I'll do my best to steer clear of posts that you have answered.

What would be the best way to deal with the windshield fogging up? Are there vents from outside that will allow air to flow just by the truck driving down the road(like an old VW bug) or will I need to put in a unit from a truck without factory air?
Ideally I suppose you could locate and modify fresh air vents for the kick panels to accept a defrost duct. But then you'd have to figure out a way to turn them on/off when needed.

I would like to remove the factory A/C from my 1972 f100. I have a few questions maybe y'all can help with.
1. Are the dash controls put of the "A/C"?
2. When I remove the the under dash unit will the I still have a defroster and heater?
3. Are there any links for removing the whole system from the truck?
4. What parts need to come out from under the hood?
Sorry for my ignorance I have never messed with A/C systems before. (picture is not my tuck but same set up)
You do realize your talking about getting rid of obsolete parts here that guys search for and never find in 10 years don't you LOL?!
The standard heater plenum with the fresh air, (that pulls through the passenger side fender) are a dime a dozen in junkyards.
Very easily installed once you pull the factory air out.
