I purchased tailgate hinges for my 69 F100. The originals have been missing since the seventy's. also bought a used tailgate. I can not get the tailgate to line up. After some research
I noticed there are two styles of hinges. Maybe I purchased the wrong ones can anybody help. Mine are the solid type if that helps.

Re: Tailgate not lining up
Where and how is it not lining up?
The 2 style of hinges should interchange, and the mounting holes on them are larger than the bolt. Allows for some adjustment.
Check the tailgate area where the hinges go into, I've found the small round piece tack welded on top can get distorted, especially if the tailgate is loose. Hitting bumps will cause the tailgate to move up and down, enlarging that hinge hole.
Have any photos?

Re: Tailgate not lining up
I figured out why it is not lining up. The bed is wided at the top than the bottom. This truck has not had a tailgate on it since the early 70's. Any ideas how to pull the sides together
without damaging the truck. Off about 1/4 Inch.

Re: Tailgate not lining up
While my bed was being painted we test fit the tailgate while the bed was still in primer. Mine was not lining up either, but the bodyman and I made a threaded rod that would thread in to where the catches for the latches go and welded an eye on it for a come along to hook into. He later used the come along to ease the tops back together and it was a lot better.
Hope this helps, Cole
