HOOD HINGE WILL NOT PULL HOOD DOWN FLUSH

Post by 67 428 F250 »

Hood spring will not close hood flush on driver side, you have to push it down. If I remove the driver side spring, the hood will lower to flush. I have changed the spring, hinge and spring, set hinge to lowest adjustment and still have the same problem. Is anyone familiar with this problem?

I had the same problem. Took it back off, lined everything up and it was flush.
I have no idea why other than maybe the tightening process moved the hinge off center when I put it on the first time.

Sounds like you have already taken it off and put it back on several times, so Good Luck.

Good evening Will,

I had this same problem the last time I installed my hood. Everything looked great, but the driver's side, rear of the hood had to be pushed down by hand for that corner to line up flush with the cowl. I kept making adjustments to the hinge but couldn't figure it out.

What I found with mine, was that the bolts that go in to the hood had been fastened down while there was some twisting force on the hinge mechanism, somehow. So that caused the hinge to have far more friction than it should have, which caused the bind. When I loosed the hood bolts one at a time, the hinge had a chance to un-bind itself somewhat, and that's how it was ultimately cured on my truck.

I honestly still don't feel like it's as good as I'd like it to be though. I'll bet an experienced body man could get it all lined up, with zero binding, in an hour or two. But that man is not me. :)

Hey Zack, I elongated the slots to lower the hinge and it still did not lower the corner in closed postion, I would have to push it down by hand.
The problem was that the hinge had to be up in the front slots and down in the rear in order for the that rear corner to drop to the rubber stop by its self as you close the hood, it worked perfect!
