Headlight Doors?

Post by Bullit »

Can someone tell me if the headlight doors were ever made of steel? I found a nice grill of steel with alum doors. Should I be looking for
steel doors to go on it? Thinking about taking the grill in to media blast the paint off... good idea or not? Then sand, sand, and a little more fine sanding before chrome...
Is it possible to polish the aluminum doors to mate with the chrome grill and not look out of place?
Yer thoughts?
Bullit.

yes 67-69 grilles were also steel. they are the same shape and can bolt in place of the aluminum ones.

Sure they were. All '67-'69 grilles were available either as polished aluminum or painted steel, with matching headlight doors. Headlight doors are easy to find, I'd hold out until you can find a good steel set to go with your grille.

Those steel grilles are sturdy enough that you can sandblast them with light pressure. Don't get too carried away with pressure and keep the nozzle moving.

Well,
Now that I know the doors were made in steel also, I'll be searching for a set. If ANYBODY can locate a set for me...I'll throw in a finder's fee... :-)

Thanks for your replies guys!
