Replacement Grill

Post by chad30021 »

I have a 68 f250 with an aluminum grill that was destroyed when a deer and my truck played chicken. [truck 1 deer 0] anyway I have found it hard to come by that particular style grill for a good price so I just want to know what all grills will fit onto it and what all parts I would need to convert it. It has the stock bumpside hood so if I could get some input It would really help.

Any grill assembly from '67-'72 will fit. You will need everything associated with the grille. From '70-'72 they were multi piece. You have the frame, inserts, headlight doors, turn signal assemblies. You will also need the stone guard from a '70-'72 or drill holes in yours. The turn signal assemblies mount to it. If I remember right '70 is a 1 yr only. The inserts mount differently than '71 & '72. The frame for the grille has to be matched to the inserts. It may be '70 & '71 are the same mounting & '72 is alone but I think I am right with it being '70. Perhaps someone with a bit more knowledge in the '70-'72 grills.

On a side thought dent ('73-'79) grill assemblies may work as well. I have no knowledge of how they mount compared to the bumps ('67-'72). Again you will need complete assemblies as they are multi piece also.

Thanks alot! I kind of figured that they were interchangable but I was not sure. I will start the search for a grill from a 70-72. If anyone has the information from a 73 on please let me know. I appreciate all the help!

Yep, 70 shell and the inserts are a 1 year only, shell can be used with 71-2 inserts if the mounting tabs are modified. I don't think the early stone guard will accept the later turn signals, the indentation is wider for the 70-72's.

Also the hood latch striker on the earlier grilles differ...sometime in 69(?) they changed, as did the mounting to the core support. Be especially careful removing the hood latch striker, those 2 captive nuts on top of the support are fairly delicate and diffcult to replace if broken. Later supports used j-nuts.
As mentioned, get all the associated parts for the grille you use. The 73+ is a very different setup and shape, not a practical swap.

Hunting via Craigslist will likely be the best source. Those early grills are nice, hope you can find one!

What year grille do you want? What condition would you like? Steel 67 68 69 or Aluminum? Or are you going to use 70 71 72? Budget? Driver or show? If show do you want driver show quality or Trailer Queen show quality? Send me a P.M. and I can probably help you.
