77 bumper fit a 72?

Post by Kurt Combs »

I am buying a 77 F-150 with a really nice front bumper, looks like it might fit my 72 F-250. Does anyone know if they interchange?

Yup! '65 through '77 are interchangeable.

Didnt they widen the frame in 73? I know the bumper will fit, but doesnt some modification need to be done to get it mounted to the frame? I bought a rear bumper off of a dent and the mounting brackets were set too far apart for the bump frame. Is the front bumper different?

Of course, I am not questioning Forest Bump because if anyone is going to know, it will be him. But just wondering why my dent rear bumper was too wide for my bump frame.

Yup! ...but rear only.

Bump rear frame width is 34" and Dent rear frame width is 38". Front frame widths remained the same from '65 to '79. Cosmetically a '78 or '79 front bumper is different then '65 through '77 but they'll bolt up...kinda like using a Dent tail gate on a Bump, it'll fit, it just doesn't 'look' right.

These rear frame widths are 2WD measurements as F250 4WD remained narrow, I.E. 34" through '77-1/2.

Confused yet? Me too!
