If it's not going to be a show truck, and you have access to tools and advice, then do it yourself.
You'll also have that "I did it myself" sense of pride that no professional job can ever give you.
Sounds to me like you have a good workable plan already!

As much as I wish it would be a show truck, it won't be. Just a cruise-in here or there. I just want it to look well enough so that people will say "Wow that's a sharp truck!" The do-it-yourself route might be the best way if I could ever work up the courage to do that first layer of bondo or spray the first coat  but it will probably take me some serious time. But in the end it will be worth it. The hardest part will be getting my parents to let me do it myself! And maybe later in life I will have the money for a full frame off restoration :hmm:

Scuff down the rest of the paint...shoot it with Flatz.....http://www.google.com/search?client=fir ... int....and be done with it for now. Then when and if your wallet allows and providing you still want to..go to town and restore the truck. At least your truck looks good while you drive it and not that expensive of a fix or time drainer to do :2cents:

With the use of all that you mentioned, do it yourself. Sounds like you have experianced people to ask for advice. You will look back one day and be very happy with all you learned and accomplished. 62, been there, done that, happy I did. Easy? No, worth doing? Heck yes.

Thanks for all the input guys. I think I'm gonna do it myself as much as possible but unfortunately it will have to wait a while because my friend's dad's shop has no room for the motor plus I got grounded indefinately/until I get a job for forgetting to take out the trash.
