I am going to be doing the same thing for my truck. I have a power antenna from a 95 lincoln that is going to be installed in that hole as I am putting a side saddle fuel tank on from a 79. I just got the replacement mast kit for the antenna and then I will start the install.

Saw a maroon one with the fenched antenna there too. Mine has a power antenna in stock location. Its a Mazda antenna but I put it in the original Ford base. Looks factory like but It is power of coures. I love mine. Heres pic of mine.

Only problem with the frenched antennas is they need a drain hole if it's on a daily driver because if it rains (or you wash your vehicle) water will gather in the hole and rust your chrome antenna base. If the frenched antenna is in the stock fuel filler location then a nippled drain hole with a tube would be necessary to allow the water to drain. :2cents:

Re: powered antenna's

Actually, I spoke to soon, Crutchfields doesn't seem to carry them anymore, but Amazon has powered antenna's for as low as $40.00. Hirada was a good brand but I don't see them anymore on sites
