Removing good cab mounts

Post by cancow »

I have a truck with good cab mounts but a destoryed cab. I would like to remove the mounts and use them on another truck. What is the best way to remove them?

Cut them outside of the welds so that you take some of the cab with the mounts. Then just remove the excess later.

Blue-Point spot weld drill bits are the only way to go. Be sure to use lots of cutting oil to preserve the integrity of the cutting edge...

:yt: Center punch the welds before drilling and be finished in no time.

You are referring to the stamped sheet metal part at the bottom front of the cab, aren't you?
If you are talking about the brackets mounted to the frame, you will need to pull the cab off. They are held on with rivets, and the tops of the rivets must be ground off and the rivet punched out with a stout punch and a 3lb. sledge hammer. No way you will ever get those top rivets out with the cab in place.
