8ft Bed Removal with a 1 0r 2 ton Cherry Picker?
Was curious if a 1 ton would be able to reach to help take the bed off. I am basing my questions on the Harbor freight cherry picker. I know the 2 ton has 60 something inches of boom length. I wasn't for sure if the 1 ton would be able to do the job. Any info is greatly appreciated.

i done one by hand a few months ago. and i didnt damage it at all. i have no idea what the reach of the picker is your talking about. i would try to get the adjustable length picker if they have one.

It should work. That is what I used when I took mine off. I just took the tire off so the picker could reach the middle of the bed. Just make sure you are centered.

One ton should be plenty but it wouldn't hurt to buy a 2 ton. This is a short bed but there is room to extend the boom out enough for a long bed.

Forget that!!! No way am i doing it by hand! Kudos! The harbor freight ones are adjustable and was just curious if the 1 ton had enough arm length to get the job done.

If the boom isn't long enough to go from the rear then you can pull it from the side.

I though about that. Just wanted to make sure I was in the right direction. The only place I have advice for is here. I do appreciate it very much.BobbyFord wrote:If the boom isn't long enough to go from the rear then you can pull it from the side.

i've done a few boxes the hard way... the last time was a total disaster : swapping from one chassis to another which were side by side -and just far enough apart that when i tripped and we dropped the box it wedged itself over the rear tires on BOTH chassis- which took a full 4 hrs and a bunch of damage to the box to free up ...never again
i'd go for the 2ton crane -i love mine.
mines some un-named adjustable thing made in china that i got about 12 or 13yrs ago at a tool liquidation place ,you can get 8ft boxes off fairly easy-ish if you sling it right and the extra reach also means extra height when you swap engines and other stuff that will seem like a great idea to do with it as well
the only thing i don't like about mine (that i 'm too lazy to fix)is that the front legs are slightly splayed so that the wheels are toed out, which can make it a little hard to push it forward when its loaded

- still got my first first car 20+yrs later : 69 f100 sorta kinda pretending its a Mercury M100 w/a 70 f350 sport custom cab (factory buckets) 67 grille with 69 ranger cooneyes 68 merc box and hood, some supercool fiberglass fenders i scored way back when, 76 f150 disc brake frontend..currently running a 90 5.0HO 4bbl/c4 auto & 3.50 posi...originally a 360/c6 f100 Ranger with dealer added towpack (incl. kelsey hays trailer brake),boxside toolbox, behind the seat stowage & belly tank...only original parts left on 'er are the frame, rear end, rear springs, and rear bumper...

I bought the one ton HF and have had no issues with anything, cab, frame, bed, engine/tranny, etc. The 2 ton is a definite improvement just for the ability to add additional length to the boom without compromising lifting capacity too much but the 1 ton is sufficient. Here's pics of all my lifts in my project thread..
