Questions regarding swapping parts...

Post by Calfdemon »

I am contemplating buying a 69 F350 Crew Cab and using my 72 F250 standard cab to swap out the problem areas with the crew.
The only real issues with the 69 is that both the front doors have dents, and the drivers door has a rusted hole at the bottom. The back doors are great and the rest of the body is good as well. If I buy the 69, I want to swap the doors out of my 72. I will take all of the good parts out of my 72 and transfer it over to the 69, and then put the stuff from the 69 that I am replacing and put it on the 72. Ultimately, once I have fixed the problems with the 69, I will sell the 72 to get some of my money back.

Here is what I plan to swap:

Wheels and tires
Both front doors
The 8 foot standard bed on the 72 and the 8 foot service bed on the 69
Front bumper
My F600 dash with auto meter gauges (I have the stock F250 dash to put back in)
Rear sliding window from the 72 and the 1 piece rear on the 69
Added features (MP3 radio, 79 wiper controls, extra power outlets)

My main concern is will the door swap? I thought the doors were all interchangeable between the years, but will a regular cab door fit a crew cab front door?

I think the other part wont be any issue, unless anyone sees anything on that list that might be different?

Thanks in advance for any input..

Always the fastest on the trigger Fordman.... Thanks!

A followup question, I asked the owner of the 69 crew to measure from the rear of the cab to the center of the rear wheel so I could figure out if my bed will fit. He tells me the measurement is 54 inches. I measure closer to 57 inches on my 72, but without the same person doing both measurements, who knows if we are measuring the same way. Maybe someone knows off of the info from the door tag? If the crew has a wheelbase of 165, and my 72 has a wheelbase of 131, will the 8 foot bed on my 72 line up and fit on the 69?

Thanks in advance again!

Anyone with any idea on the bed?

The bed (along with my ability to get him to lower the price some) will probably be the deciding factor on this on whether I pull the trigger or not. I told him I wanted the weekend to think about it and he agreed to not relist the truck pending my decision. If I actually have to find a different bed and then get rid of this service bed, instead of just swapping it to my other truck, then that will probably be a deal breaker for me at the price he is asking. I have a couple of days, but trying to make my decision with as much knowledge about what I might be getting into as I can gather. :)

I will try asking this directly to crew cab owners in a different titled thread for better coverage. :)
