Front Cab Mount
In a previous post someone mentioned bolt-on cab-mount repair brackets from JC Whitney. I have not seen them, but rustrepair.com has bolt-on and weld-on mounts listed. Has any one used them and what would the pro's and con's be to using one over the other? Keeping the truck stock is not a concern, because the truck isn't going it be anywhere near stock anyway.

re: Front Cab Mount
I'm in the Western part of the state about 15 mile west of Ky Dam. I do come through your neck of woods every now and then, as I have kids in the Louisville area, and the Dayton, Ohio area.
My mounts are not in to bad of shape, if I wasn't putting the body on another frame I wouldn't even fool with them right now, they are just starting to rust through. But with the cab off might as well repair them.

re: Front Cab Mount
I thought the Dennis Carpenter pieces were reproductions of the factory pieces?

re: Front Cab Mount
I have bought D/C cab mounts and had them installed on my 67 merc and they fit very well. You may find that even the good quality replacement parts need to be tweeked here and there to fit your truck. But as Keith says the D/C cab mounts are exact factory reproductions. My buddy is coming over today and I will get him to bring his camera so I can take some pictures of my truck and post them.

re: Front Cab Mount
Thanks everyone I made a few calls today and I think I was shipped the wrong ones. Another set on the way hope they look a little more like the factory setup.

re: Front Cab Mount
You definitely do not have the d-c ones. The d-c product is actually two pieces welded together (so you have two layers of steel at the mounting point) and comes without the access cover (they get extra $$ for that). The d-c ones also are comparatively very heavy - almost 10 lbs each.

re: Front Cab Mount
Thanks Gerald and John those are the pictures and info I needed. I had paid the D/C price of $80.00 each I just was sent the wrong item. Definetly his mistake and once I showed him a comparison photo and told him I verified with D/C over the phone that they look like the catalog illustration I called him back and he instantly ordered and is shipping me a correct pair. He apologized and explained to me why he thought they were the correct ones and after looking into it on his end he now understands what happened with his last transaction---somebody pulled a fast one on him and he didn't know the difference.
Gerald NICE TRUCK I enjoyed the pictures. Keep up the good work

re: Front Cab Mount
Finally I recieved the correct D/C mounts
They look great but no hole in the bottom for the bolt etc... Is this something you must drill after it is welded on?
Photo also shows these compared to the Made in Taiwan product

re: Front Cab Mount
Hi,
Just thought I'd add to the discussion; regarding the Bolt-on front cab-mounts from JC-Whitney ($29) I just finished putting these on, and I'd have to say I'm pleased.
In my case, my front mounts were completely mush. I didn't want to spend a lot of money, and I definitely didn't want to rip the cab off.
I also had the fenders and aprons off of the truck which made installation lickety-split - but you could do this repair with the fenders in-place. The new mounts just slide in. I thought they looked too flimsy at first, but after bolting through the pre-drilled holes, it firmed up nicely. I just had to make a 5/8" hole for my new bushings/bolt. I'd recommend these if you're trying to save some time and money. It's probably temporary at best, but I figure they'll last a couple of years.
Thankfully, I also noticed that the years of sagging cab had nearly sawed my steering shaft in half at the lower seal! May be a good time to make the power steering upgrade.
