source for hood reflectors

Post by Kurt Combs »

Anyone know where I can get two reflectors for the side of my hood? I have the really nice chrome part, but I need good or new reflectors. I looked in my LMC catalog, but no luck. So I need a vendor who sells them, or a really nice used set. I would of course entertain the purchase of a NOS pair. :D

The reflectors themselves arent really produced for resale. The usual alternatives are repairing them from scratch using aftermarket materials and in some cases upgrading to a back lit option. Or you can pay the cash for a replacement side hood ornament. One of my own nagging side projects I am working on.

The back lit option sound good. Any body make this conversion already? Be really cool if it was also hooked to the turn indicators.

I've considered using 3M's reflective yellow tape... ya know, the same tape used on bollards.

Ebay is a good place to start. I've got a 69 F100 with the hood emblems that have the reflectors. The reflectors are far from fresh looking sooooooo I opted to switch over to the 67 F100 hood emblems (no reflector) which happen to fit in the mounting holes. Be warned the 67 hood emblems are smaller than the 68-72 emblems. I found a decent pair of 67 emblems on ebay. There are a lot of people selling all kinds of these hood emblems on there.

I'll keep looking. I currently have one good one and the other side is okay, but not what I would want to install with my new chrome piece. I guess I will just keep looking on Ebay and bid more than $12 next time. I just hate to pay a lot for what should be a $10 part.

Here's a good writeup for the backlit reflectors: http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... or#p405984
