Your right about that you really cant get mixed colors in rustoleum anymore from what im hearing most store will not do it and im not sure why...So what i did because of where i live.... is got friendly with the paint person by just saying hello and shooting the bull everytime i was in there because it's a small place and it worked out for me that way so when i told him what i was doing he worked with me on it. I here ACE will mix there paints and it's just like rustoluem from what ive been told.

Mine is pretty darn close to the boxwood color with a white top. I will try and post some pic's when i have a chance, if i can figure out how to do it.

Didn't know you could get custom colors in rustoleum....

yea IF I could get custom colors from Rustoleum it would be done already!! Although, I have considered it...paint is 'spensive!

I suggest buying a book on "How to paint a car". That's what I did in 1976. I know there is a lot of technology out there but still use my old Devilbiss JGA gun and in my opinion does a better job than the HVLP gun that I have hanging on the wall. As for paint, don't go cheap unless you plan to be disappointed. Omni is a decent budget paint but tends to be little thin and not easy to spray for beginners. I always use PPG epoxy primer/sealer and if it's not for show then I prefer single stage. Really good single stage paint is PPG Concept but it's fairly expensive but really durable and goes on easy. Just my 2 cents.

Go to Napa cross fire system system. paint is cheap and durable. i prefer bc/cc the cost over all is about the same. And you should always be hesitant to buy anything from harbor freight!

I'm having the same dilemma. For me it may be Rustoleum or nothing. I know a professional body man who used it on a truck. It looked great but it had just been done. I've read that it doesn't last. You may be able to mix the colors yourself. Do a search for "how to mix paint." I'm an old sign painter so I've mixed plenty of paint. Mix a little bit to start with so you get the feel of the proportions before mixing the entire batch. Remember that paint darkens a little when dry. It would be a good idea let a little of your test batch dry to make sure it's what you want. Finger paint so you don't have to clean the gun or brushes.

I'm a hobbyist-level painter. Infrequently I paint vehicles--it takes much longer these days to get a project to that stage, dangit.

Base coat/clear coat paints are nowhere near the quality they were twenty years ago do to the reduction in VOC's in the paint, in my observations. The last major paint job I did was my Bump, painted Safety Orange and White with rustoleum and an older Binks spray gun and pressure pot. Really didn't have to do much differently, other than to lay down the paint in thinner, more numerous coats than with DuPont or whatever other paints I'd used in the past.

My truck was a full cab-bed-underhood repaint. I ended up using 1.5 gallons of paint and about 2 gallons of thinner. Wet sanded, buffed, good to go. You CANNOT beat the price, and the upside is that if you ding it, like I did a week after painting mine, you can touch up, buff and not worry about fussy clear coat issues. Here's the 250 a year or so ago when I finished it up. It's not as 'glossy' as it could be, but that's probably me being in a hurry more than anything else. I could probably mask and prep/topcoat it with another coat or two and it'd end up much shinier, but it's a truck, it looks good enough for me, and doesn't look like used dog food.

Did you use any primer? Rustoleum makes several types of paint. What kind did you use?
