Those hood locks are nice but that guy selling it is full of [deleted]. His false hype is so bad it is offensive, you don't have to make stuff up to sell parts. They are not all that rare and I have at least ten of them here right now and I list them on eBay regularly (which is one of the reasons I know he hasn't done his homework and made it up!). You don't need to drill the rivets out to rekey them and I sell a complete lock set with hood lock, door locks and ignition lock with keys for $100 and the hood lock alone for $75 with keys. At $40 it isn't a horrible buy but shipping is over priced and it could go flat rate USPS rather than by zone. It will cost most people less than $50 to get a key made so you can easily do better. I would say my bad but I don't see how it is my fault that you posted a link to an item you are selling that you are not accurately representing. I had no way of knowing it was yours and I will always point out any false information. Instead of making stuff up about parts you should really try and describe them accurately and do your homework. BS does not sell parts, honesty does. These were optional on Ford trucks and vans in 78/9 and were fairly common especially in the vans where they were used into the 90s. The cable on a van is shorter but the cable used on pickups is the same as a 70's car where these were especially common on Lincolns. The hood lock option was not special order item and many trucks have it as part of the security package which is an RPO (regular production option) not a SO (special order). The hood lock was also available as a stand alone RPO and many people did get them that way but most probably came with the security group which is also how you got a glove box lock and locking gas cap. In the 70's this was an extremely important issue so many vehicles had it as dealers stocked them that way to reduce fuel theft (especially in populated areas like LA). It also will not fit a whole bunch of vehicles that you are claiming it will fit like Ranchero or 60's products without a bunch of work and that is not how you listed it. You say "It would fit the F-100, F-150, F-250, F-350, Bronco, E-150, E-250, E-350, Bump, Bumpside, Dent, Dentside, Econoline, Ranchero, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1978 and possibly the newer years of Ford trucks as well" well, by your definition of "it will fit", an Allison V12 "will fit" too. [deleted]. This thing will not bolt in any ranchero and quite a bit of modifying needs to be done to make it fit a Bump. [deleted]. Hawkrod

BTW, there were 4 of these that closed on ebay between the 7th and 14th and the most expensive complete one that sold was $80 ( http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 1011406827 ). There are two complete ones and a cable on there now and several hood latches without cables (it is a D5DZ part number on the cable but I did not look to see if any car cables were listed). If you are going to whine you should have at least checked first, so note that while I found SIX for sale on eBay in the last week, there are probably more to be found by working the description because not everybody is generic and I did not look for stuff like "1978 F250 hood latch" which would not show up in the search I used. I see a link above to a listing that ended for one latch that sold for $80.00.
I stand by my original statement! You can clearly see the item I spoke above was mine, (as i said so in the previous post)!
I listed my locking hood latch as a rare OEM part which you know very well it was! There were only maybe 10% of all dent erea trucks and vans made in 78/79 that had this "rare" factory option!

[deleted].

Mods, please lock it as it's apparent neither he nor I are gonna stop! :help:

Hey! Come on guys! Please keep personal issues out of this arena. This is a really good project thread, by a relatively new member, and I'd hate to see it locked because of ya'lls "debate". I don't want our new members to get the wrong idea about Fordification.

Matt, please forgive the intrusion and continue with your project thread. I think the work you've done is innovative and I'd like to see more of it.

Mods, if at all possible, could you just delete Jeff and Hawk's comments and leave Matt's thread intact?

basketcase302, IMO i don't see where you got bashed basketcase, You posted a link to a ad on ebay and hawkrod responded with what he seen wrong with it and followed up with correct infomation to back up what he said. Ive learned from his post that he's made here and havent seen in his past post to where he has bashed people unless they have fired back at him. I can say that he dose post in a harsh manner at times but he is a by the numbers guy and he speaks out when he sees misinformation. Ive been put in check by him myself and yes it don't feel good but he was correct and pointed out what i posted wrong, I spent hours searching to prove him wrong but couldnt. And have never seen where the mods have had a problems with him in the 2 years ive been here. He is Harsh at times and will hurt feeling if your thin skined.

I don't think this should be locked because 2 people disagree with each other, I hope the info on the parts that will work will stay posted because it helps someone like me that wants to find the parts needed to install a lock on the hood of my truck when i decide to try it.

I hope this topic continues on because i think its a good topic and should be able to added to, though i would hope personal disagreement between 2 people would be done through PMs from now on.

Go outside. There is a whole world out there. The Internet & forums specifically are not the center of all mankind. Just reminds me of a cartoon of a guy being called to bed by his wife while he was in front of a computer. "Wait someone posted something wrong on the Internet"

Jeff, please accept my public apology. I did not mean to insult you. I consider you a friend and would like to keep it that way. I greatly respect all you guys knowledge and experience and would hope that we could have some differences and still be cool.

Allright.

I've split this because I think the discussion about the hood latch has value.

Since it appears both side have had their say I'm going to lock it.
