Replace with a rust free part is the best way.

Like Ranchero says. If you can find a rust free part, its gonna be cheaper and easier than paying someone to weld it.

I have to go that route for the doors on my 67, because they are model year only, and got a quote of $250 *per* door. $500 buys damn near a whole 'nother truck around here. So unless you can weld yourself, buy rust free parts.

Or invest in welding equipment.. the payback is super fast. Figure $80 per hour for bodywork and welding so do the math.

I recommend the Miller 140 with Autoset or Miller 211 with Autoset. Welding is a skill/hobby that will last you a lifetime.

Teach yourself. I read up, watched a few YouTube videos, and then started practicing. Last summer I replaced the floor pans in my 65 Mustang. It's easy once you know how. It opens up a world of possibilities and you can get super deals on otherwise rusty cars and trucks.

vonburger: I just finished patching both corners of both doors using a combination of welding and 3M's panel bond. If you've got the time and skill (or interested in learning) this is not a hard task to tackle. Just take your time and do a lot of tapping and trimming to get everything lined up. And most important - be very careful how much heat you put into the outer skin when tacking on the new metal. Yes, these old trucks have thicker skin than a new one, but it's still thin enough to wave at you when you're done!

Good Luck
