Bonehead Primer Move?

Post by evan_flatt69 »

So I've been tearing down my engine replacing some gaskets and such, and in the process I am repainting all of my engine parts. Me being the person I am, neglected to realize that I should have used high temp engine primer on all the parts. So I have been painting all my engine parts with Duplicolor engine paint over a regular automotive primer. My question is, will I need to strip everything, get new primer, and start over (I have plenty of industrial paint remover on hand), or will the external temp of the engine stay below the 200 degrees the primer says it can withstand?

I painted a engine with car paint and didnt have any problems with it burning of flakeing off. A FE is going to burn off the exhaust ports no matter what you do over time but you shouldnt have any problems with the primer on the rest of the engine.
