1978 Ford Truck Door Latches

Post by tgraham »

I purchased this truck new in 1978. Just recently, the door latches started making a "Double Click" when opening the doors. They both started doing this within a couple of weeks of each other. The door, when closed isn't "Tight" like it was before.

Any ideas what my problem could be? I have pulled the drivers side lock and all the springs look intack. It works but released one half of the latch before the other.

Thanks

Tim

Tim,
You might also want to post over on our "sister site" for the dent era trucks:

But I can tell you from my expierence with the three dents I owned it will usually be the door strike, (the part that screws into the cab itself). Both DC and NPD sell them cheaply and another "quick fix" is to wrap a few wraps of electrical tape around it. This will tighten the clearance-and hold the door closed better.
