i'm just beginning to get into my new find, a 68 camper special....
i found it with the super side mirrors obviously for when a camper is attached.
I was wondering if somebody could recommend a different type of side mirror for this truck that
goes with it and is not for use with campers?
I'm also looking for information on what the original camper shells for these looked like (brands etc.) and for what type of modern camper shell might work well for this.
It has the extended bed...

Re: 68 F250 side mirrors for camper special
I wrote a reply to you in the welcome mat. I too have a 68 F250 CS and the PO swapped the original west coast jr mirrors for some small after market side view mirror brand. One of the first things i did was re-install the original west coast jr mirrors (thankfully he saved them). To each his own I guess, but I love them. Definitely not very aerodynamic but I love the look of them. I never intend to add a cab over camper (again) and will very rarely tow anything but mine are staying. Just another wind whistling feature of your truck. Enjoy

Those are the west coast mirrors with the third "steady arm". The Jr. West Coast mirrors (no third arm) pulls the mirror head closer to the body. Using the Jrs. would however leave exposed the two unused mounts on the doors. You'll want to weld them closed and refinished because that would introduce a source for rust.
Alternatives include passenger-car type mirrors - similar to that used on 67-70 Mustangs. I suggest ordering catalogs from Dennis Carpenter Restoration, Blue Oval Truck Parts, LMC Truck, Mac's Antique Auto Parts, and National Parts Dept. That'll give you a pretty good idea of what is available in repro and OEM.
I have no info on camper shells.
