Remote Batterie Set Up?

Post by dkterra »

Has anyone attempted a remote batterie set up? Like in a box in the bed behind the passenger side. Maybe big enough in case might want duals. Just thinking of ideas to clean up the engine bay a little. :maybe:

I made a battery tray out of heavy angle iron, bolted it to the frame where the passenger side bed toolbox is. I found a compact gel-cell battery, it tucked up in there nicely, just enough room to clear the bedpanel to remove. A larger battery might not have worked so well.
The F250 frame had plenty of holes stamped there, It worked out nicely. The "00" heavy gauge copper battery cable was the most expensive part.
That small battery turned over the stock FE360 just fine.
Found a side toolbox to graft on, my new 300 gets the battery in the usual place...not having a battery under the hood was nice, lots more tool room!

Saw a '51 F1 at a cruise in last month. He mounted his solenoid, electronic ignition box, voltage regulator, etc, on the lower sloped part of the firewall in his engine bay. Really cleaned things up. His battery was mounted behind the seat. He doesn't drive it a lot though. I would think, if driven regularly, the connections would corrode quickly exposed to the weather and road grime like that.

Something similar to this, only a little more on the passenger side with a top.
This set up is in the bed of a scout II.

I have a camper special and was thinking of putting the batteries in the bed side tool box. I did see on a car show one time some Optma red top batteries but looked like only half a battery. They put two of these batteries behind the set of the car.

Isn't the tool box on camper specials made of plastic? :hmm: And just a thought on mounting the battery inside the cab...
I drove a dillipadated truck last year for a fortune 500 company that treated it's employees like dirt, (corporate greed IMO). :x
During my stay there I was exposed to battery acid inside the compartment of the vehicle on more than one occasion! :nono:
Battery inside confined space(inside of cab) + heat and cool cycles(any temp+- 30 degrees)= a battery venting acid fumes! My :2cents:

the bedisde tool box sits under the bed on the passengers side, humm, did not think about venting, may need to rig something up but still keep it dry inside.
