Suggestions for refinishing emblems

Post by jrreed1634 »

So my hood emblems for my 67 are not in great shape and I am looking for what others have tried for refinishing. I have looked into chroming or chrome pwodercoat. I haven't got any cost estimates yet but it might be worth just purchasing new although i beleive the side emblems for a 67 are harder to find. Any help would be great. I am also not sure how to strip off the old chrome, would blasting them damage them?

Blasting will only pit the chrome. Chrome is electro-statically and chemically applied (copper, nickel, and then chromium baths with electrical currents). If you're intent on saving the OEM emblems, I suggest you contact Advance Plating in Nashville, TN. They were flooded out a few years ago so their new equipment and refurbished facility is state of the art... they can even apply chrome to non-metallic parts like plastic and bone (yes, bone as in skeletons).

I wish someone would repro just the reflector.. Mine is faded but the chrome is otherwise fine. I'm thinking of apply yellow 3M reflective tape in the interim.
