door and ignition locks

Post by Firebird »

Hello,

I have a 1969 F100 that needs new door locks, as I did not receive the key for them when I bought the truck. I figure I'll replace the ignition at the same time so they all match, but am not having much luck finding a set for this truck. Does anyone know if any other model vehicle locks will work? Mustang lock sets seem to be plentiful and cheap, but I don't want to waste the money on them if they won't work.

Thank you,
Michael

When I had to replace mine I found a replacement set of locks and keys in the HELP! section at Auto Zone. Most parts store carry the help section. If I remember correctly it cost me less than 15 bucks for the set. I dont know for sure whether they made these trucks with matched locks as far as one key fits all.

I like these "V" keys in my '66 Mustang and might use them for the truck. I would think the ignition switch and door locks of the 60's era classics are universal fit...

Those keys are pretty neat- they're the factory keys for late fifties/ early sixties Fords. My '60 Falcon has the original keys which are just like that.

If you google search this forum for "pin modding", you'll find how to modify the pins in the keyhole. You can do this to your door locks... just takes some effort. I will give this a try in the future to eliminate 1 key.
