Jr West Coast mirror question

Post by kaliona »

I plan on visiting the junk yard to see if I can find a decent pair of Jr west coast mirros for my 67. Are they all the same size whether they come off a van or a truck...as long as it's a Ford?
Also, I know the top of the bracket mounts with T bolts, but how is the bottom of the bracket attached to the door? Do I have to remove the door panel, and use the same type of T bolts?

As far as I knew the jr west coast mirrors were the same on from the van to the truck. I believe they used "t" bolts on all of them. I just used nuts bolts and lock washers. I did have to remove my door panel to get the lower mounting attached.I took a set off my truck to replace with the full camper mirror, I want to say I ditched them upstairs at my work. ill check tommorow, if there still around you can have them just pay the ride.

edit: I looked all around in my upstairs storage, It doesnt look like I have them anymore.

You can buy Carriage bolts to mount the mirrors. Not sure what yinz guys mean by T-bolts?

I grabbed some nice Stainless carriage bolts and they worked great and leave a nice finished look.

T-bolts and small acorn nuts were used on top and threaded rivets (also known as "nutserts") are installed on the door and hex headed bolts threaded into the nutserts. Opt for stainless steel hardware (Lowe's has a good selection). Also, the original threaded rivets stand proud of the sheetmetal and a hard plastic gasket served as a spacer.

Here's a pic of the spacer. It's slightly thicker than a nickel:

A "threaded insert" works real well for that, and doesn't require access to the backside of the sheetmetal. They can be bought for any thickness of metal and stainless as well:

The tool cost about $75 but pays for itself the first time you use it.
