My new truck! I need advice!

Post by 69farmtruck »

This is my current daily driver, and project truck. Its a 69 , on a 70 frame. The truck has a restored interior , and rust free frame, with a good running 300 6cyl.. The truck sets right now the way i bought it. I want to put a fleetside bed on it, but what years will fit? Will only a 69 match up? The truck has also been lowerd front and back , and I like that, but I want the back to sit on the ground when I park it any advice on how to acomplish this? Great site by the way!

Beds from '67-'72 will fit. '70-'72 have marker lights. Plan on plenty of money to do what you desire with the rear. You will need to cut out the portion of frame above the axle and either buy a section to go in place or build one that will allow more travel of the rear axle.

Thanks! So does this mean a 67-72 long bed body line down the middle will match up? And I figured it would cost about 2 grand on the rear? I am not for shure, I was looking for some kind of c notch made for a ford full size but no luck yet.

Welcome from your fellow HAMB member! ;)

Nice to have ya here.

I'd cruise your local junkyards for a halfway decent bed you could patch up.

Check out Dennis Carpenter and LMC Truck for parts.

Yes the only difference in the beds is the marker lights. You are going to need more than a c notch. You are going to need a complete c section to graft in. You could start with a MN12 IRS and trim the subframe to fit inside the rails. Once you have it welded in you can remove the section of frame above the axle shafts. This will give you clearance for upper control arm travel. Now comes the fun part. If you check my truck http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... 22&t=54398 I have the MN12 installed using mounts that set it up for bolt in under the rail. I have considerable drop in the nose of my truck. Raising the subframe on the IRS will of course lower the truck even further. Bagging would let you set it on the ground when parked BUT the front is still going to be in the air both parked and driving unless you do something serious up front.

Your truck would require a 69 or earlier(67,68)bed for the bump(body line) to be correct style wise, but as elgemcdlf mention 67-72 boxes will work. The difference is shown here..... (halfway down pg) http://www.fordification.com/tech/67-72ID_01.htm  and :wel: from NY(not the city)
I've had enough and I'm not alone
