Tailgate Letter Colors

Now that winter has settled in here ,there is time to ponder some of the little questions concerning our trucks. Tailgate letter colors, does anyone know the system that was used to determine the color?
My truck is Bahama Blue/ Wimbeldon White/ Bahama Blue with what appears to be white tailgate letters (the truck has sunburn). I have seen Customs like mine with red letters. Someone please shed light on this for me.

Good question..mine is "Swiss Aqua" and "Wimbledon White" and had white letters.

There are different color stickers for the letters available for example at LMC. Don´t know about the quality of these though.

I have seen Red, White, blue, mine are black. Do not know what method ford used. Choose a color you like for them, unless of course you want original. Someone on here will know Ford's method.

if the factory painted the letters they would have came white. if they werent painted then they would have been the same color as the tailgate. what color white is it? i can only guess at corintian white or wimbeldom white.

I've only seen red letters on an all white or all tan truck, and maybe an all red truck...Usually , two tone trucks will have the same color letters as whatever the accent white is....I think...

A good way to find out what color they were originally painted is to sand them down to primer. This way you can see exactly what color they're supposed to be. You'll need to feather each layer of paint out to get a large enough patch of paint to determine it's color. This, however, is only useful if you plan on repainting them, but, from your question, it looks that is your goal. And, you'll already have half of the work done when it comes time to repaint the letters.

I have seen several pictures of all white trucks with red / orange letters.
Was that standard on all of them? I want to get an original look to my all wimbleton white 1970 F100.

I checked out the technical artical Tailgates and Tailgate Trim, but did not see anything regarding lettering color.

Match the tailgate lettering to the accent color on two tones... with white trucks you match the interior.

You can see in the picture above the white truck w the black lettering has black interior

The one with the orange lettering has a orange / brown interior inside on the other page

It's the same for dents, and on the white ones with the higher trim levels they matched those stripes around the dent to the interior as well.
