A dent on my bump......

Post by Swegner99 »

I have a pretty good sized dent, on the bump of my bed. Its smashed in about 2 inches and its about 4 inches long. My question is: Has anyone had these types of dents? and how how did you go about fixing them?

There's no place on the inside of the bed to be able to pound out a dent on the bump itself....

I took some pictures but forgot my phone at home today (I feel naked, its kind of sad really that im so attached, lol)

Any helpful tips?

I had a dent about that size on my tail gate. I cut a section out of the inside, pounded the dent out and welded the section back in. I hope you find a better way but it worked for me.

Yeah... a poor welder quickly becomes an excellent grinder.

Try "dent wizard" or the like... For what you have you might be pleasantly surprised what they can do for you and relatively cheap too. A guy at work here had them fix his car and they made a good sized dent look flat as the day it was born. I never would've dreamed they could've made it look that good and they didn't have to paint it afterward.

I think Dent Wizard would work on newer vehicles because the metal is thinner. I'd be surprised if it would work on our trucks.

I've had luck with this method...Grind down the dent to bare metal along the lowest parts, flatten one edge of 5/16" flat washers (allows more area for welding), have someone tackweld them in a row along the deepest areas of dent. Use a 5-lb dent puller with the j-hook, hook into the washers and pull out in even incremental steps. Careful with that thing...Grind off washers and fill/finish.

If you have everything prepared and a handful of washers, find someone with a welder and set them loose. Bribe with currency, bottled beverages, pastries, etc. as needed.

Not sure if necessary, but when arc welding on a vehicle, I always disconnect the battery cables. Hope this helps!

Dent puller, drill holes where needed and pull it out until very little filler is needed. Fill, sand and prime. Take your time and it will come out fine.
A welder is nice, but you can do dent repair without one.
