stupid question

Post by Mark Williams »

What would you call the black finish used in the new Batman movies. Semi-flat, satin. I thing my
72 4x4 would look great that way.

There is a paint by John Deere called Blitz Black. It is a durable satin black. Or you could just use your favorite brand of regular single-stage urethane and add a flattener.

One thing to remember about the satin finishes is that when they get rubbed they go shiny. I painted a guys sportster last spring and it didn't take long before his knees made part of the tank shiny on both sides of the bike. Waxing it will also shine it up, so will your arm resting on the door on a hot day. And one thing about base clear and single stage is that you can polish out scratches later, but you can't do that to a satin finish. I don't think that matters to most guys that do the satin look, but it did to the dude on that half shiny sportster!
sikkens calls it rally black, dupont has one called hot rod black, They probably all have a different name for it to avoid legal hassles.

I dont think tree limbs will do too much polishing. I think the hotrod black is what I'm looking for. Thanks guys.
