prepping a frame.
finished cleaning my frame from all the rust. used a wire wheel, dewalt grinder. looks good. A lot better then before. Anyways, would I be wasting time and money if i sprayed it down with etching primer and then sprayed on a bedliner onto the frame?

Re: prepping a frame.
I advise caution using bed liner on the under side of vehicles. I've seen first hand what happens when a pocket forms & fills with water/moisture. Friend of mine did it on a IH Scout he re-did a few years back & now the underside is peeling like mad, needs to be stripped & re-done.
I think you'll be better off going with something like POR-15 or the Eastwoods equivilent. With the POR-15, you don't need to prime anything. Just apply to the bare frame. If you've never used it, be sure to follow the directions. That stuff is like liquid steel when it dries.

I like the POR-15 products. Their cleaner, "Marine clean" is some awsome stuff. It will MELT years of grime & gunk off of stuff @50% that purple power won't make a dent in @ 100%.
I hear lots of guys use the Eastwoods stuff, but i've never tried it. Always had good luck with POR for stuff like frames/floorpans & whatnot.

Re: prepping a frame.
Anybody have experience with Chassis Saver paint? I'm going to be painting a frame soon also. I'm considering chassis saver since it is available at the local auto value parts store. Also, where is marine clean available?

Also you need to clean the rust off or do any prep work. You can just paint over the rust with POR 15.

Re: prepping a frame.
POR15 and their other products are carried through Napa. We offer them through any Napa paint store outlet. I have sold plenty of the stuff to people for their boats. Its used to paint the inside of fuel tanks to seal away rusty crusty deposits. The marine clean is a great product, I have gotten rave reviews from my customers about it.
I am debating going this route for my own truck.

Re: prepping a frame.
I finally got her painted. I used rustoluem rust reformer and the rustoluem undercoating. Looks beautiful. I let one coat dry for 24 hours then applied it again. If you go this route make sure you do prep work at 100%.

Re: prepping a frame.

I ended up re-coating my frame XO rust on top of a very faded(and rust bleeding through)coat of Chassis Saver

I've had enough and I'm not alone

I have been watching your thread and seen that the rust came through. I did my research and what sold me was that a Guy did his with the rustoluem left it out side for 2 weeks and lookes the same as the day he did it. I heard a lot of good things about por15 and a lot of bad. That's goes with every product out there. Guess I'm the Guinea pig for this. I will definitely update in a few months. I will post pictures ASAP.
