It's a BLAST

Post by 68RGR »

Although this is an engine item, its more of a paint topic so I am posting it here.

I continue to be amazed at what my newly acquired $99 blast cabinet can do.

The photo is not exactly a before and after but the clean piece was formerly attached to and looked a lot like the other piece pictured.

Many will tell you that you can't sandblast with a smaller compressor. Mine is a 30 year-old, 2 HP with a 30 gallon tank. I ran it at 60 PSI (that's right - 60) and used the finer (30-60 grit) Black Diamond media that's available at Tractor Supply. Now, I'm not going to tell you it works just as well as any other blaster because this is my first experience with them. But, it does work and the results speak for themselves.

I was also able to blast the air cleaner lid but I'm thinking the housing of the air cleaner will be quite a challenge given its size. The lid was a pretty tight fit in the cabinet and I suspect that the body is too big to fit and still be blast-able. I have given some thought to "adding on" to the back of the cabinet to allow me to blast larger items. If the back wall was bumped out, so to speak, the air cleaner housing would fit easily and be blast-able. Anyone done something like that?

Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in garages. (Apologies to Kenneth Grahame.)

The following is just my :2cents: flowing out of my big Pie Hole

I have blasted with a small pot and a 20 gal comp. The smaller comp. will work, but not as good as it's bigger brothers. I spent a lot of time waiting for the comp to catch up, and it ran full time. I can now look at getting the job done a lot faster with the bigger comp I have installed. I enjoy using all my air tools a lot more now.
If U R handy you can add on to your cabinet. Sheet metel, shears, and a rivet gun. I am thinking of building a cabinet out of plywood and plexiglass. I think someone on here has done that.
May your sails stay full, and your knots not slip. Unless a slip knot.
