Price for paint job

Post by billbates40 »

So I got a new fender for my truck and I rattle can painted it before I put it on. I'm pretty good at painting, and the problem is that it looks much better than the rest of the truck. I don't have a garage, air compressor or the necessary equipment to paint any other way besides rattle can or $50 paint job. I took it down to Maaco and had them give me an estimate and here is what they gave me.

My truck is a 72 F 100
Two Tone paint (Calypso Coral and Wimbledon White)
I'll take off all trim and any holes with bondo.

149.95 Surface Repair - Excessive Chips
129.95 2K/Urethane
379.95 Enamel; Paint Only
325.00 Two Tone Paint
208.00 Right Bed Front Corner Repair (Dent)

1192.95 Total

Is that good or can I do better?

I will look for those codes tomorrow at work. As for the cost of the paint job, I would go to a few body shops and get a few prices. I don't recomend getting a lower grade paint job. I have had to fix a few Maaco jobs in the past. Once they painted over a piece of masking tape on the !/4 panel!
A great deal doesn't seem so great a year or two later when your paint is failing! They also protect themselves with disclaimers like "fix most chips and scratches" if you are getting it painted don't you want them all fixed? :? Not trying to bag on one company just saying go to a few places and get as much info as you can that's all. :2cents:

Why is it that there's seldom time to fix it right the first time, but there's always time to fix it right the second time???

A friend of mine did mine for $1200. I removed and replaced all of the trim.

if you take your vehicle to maaco make sure that you remove all of your trim, valued lenses, chrome, and take high res pictures of the vehicle before. also take high res pictures of the vehicle after it's painted but before it has been accepted from maacos posession. The removal of your valued parts and the pictures should help avoid any catastrophes. You don't want maaco running sanders over these parts. You also don't want overspray on your tires or windows etc. etc. With pictures proving damages and mishandeling you can take them to court. Maaco ran their sanders over all of my aluminum trim and glass on my monte carlo and i had to take those ******** to court. And I only won half my settlement, all due to the fact that i took zero precautions, sooooooooo please beware my friend!!! and if you are cautious i'm sure you will get a good deal.
