Front cab mount removal tip

Post by 67nukeford »

For anyone who is going to remove and replace the front cab mounts, this tip may come in handy. On the first mount, I had a heck of a time removing the spot welds at the top of the mount, that weld the mount under a lip on the firewall. As you can see in the first pic, the mount will be in the way, not allowing the drill to go straight into those spot welds. On the second mount, after cutting out the bottom and side spot welds, I took a cut off wheel, and cut the mount across the top, removing most of the mount, so that I could get at those top welds, at a straight shot with the drill.
(the cab is sitting on it's back in these pics)

I plan on doing mine as well along with new floor pans and cab cross brace. Is it possible to do this one corner at a time without lifting the cab off?

I think it would be very difficult, getting at all of the spot welds with the cab still on.

Aren't the cab mounts primarily spot welded to the floor pans? The main area I would have to worry about it is where the mounts are welded to the seam right? With the whole front end tore down I think I have pretty good access to that area.

Yep, spot welded all the way around. You could do it, as long as you got it high enough off of the frame to get the spot welds that sit over the frame.
