Stubborn bed bolt
Are those inexpensive propane torches hot enouh in to cut a bolt? 5 of the 6 bed bolts came off but the 6th will need to be cut - the square bolt head is spinning in the bed:( I don't have a torch and I'm looking for suggestions to remove the last bolt.

Re: Stubborn bed bolt
can you use a cut off wheel to get to it and cut it off?

not sure i can get to the nut end with a wheel but I didn't think about grinding off the head in the bed. I may cut into the bed though

Don't cut into the bed and make more work for yourself. Just grind the head off like you suggested.

Re: Stubborn bed bolt
have your wife stand onthe bolt head while you impact the nut off. that is what i did on the ones that spun. the ones that wouldnt come even if she stood on them. i borrowed a torch and cut the nut offalong with the bottom half of the bolt. i then took a punch and punched out the botl before it got too cool and the slag mated to the frame. propane isnt really a hot burning gas. mapp gas is hotter. but its not the gas or heat that you really need. its the oxygen that you need to blow through the metal. so just a plain heating torch wont do it.

I don't Know exactly what stores would sell them in the states, but I have heard guy's talk about "harbour Freight" . any body shop supply place will have them. They come with a chissell end and a punch end. This is great for punching the bolt through the frame. good luck!

I ground off the heads of the bolts that spun. You could also grind a slit in the head and try to hold it with a big ass screwdriver, don´t know if that would be enough to get the nut off.

You can also weld a big nut to the bolt head and then hold it with a wrench.

Im starting to learn that there isnt much that can outlast a cut off wheel or sanding disc, if your motivated enough,
