Frame gas tanks

What types of gas tanks fit in our frames?

no one has any proof yet. but i think you could use up to a 1986 ford truck midship tank.

Late 60's, early 70's Mustang tanks fit in behind the rear axle with a little modification.

Would that be mods to the tank or the truck? Also, since the Mustang is based off the Falcon chassis, will a Falcon tank fit just the same?

the frame to fit the tank. and the bed so that you can fill the tank. those tanks point ot the rear and upwards. so you have to cut a hole in the bed for fuel.

Also, not sure about the Falcon tank being the same but I do not believe Falcon tanks were 22 gal. like the '70 Mustang tanks are.

57 Sunliners and T-Bird tanks fit as well. I am still planning on doing the install, but they are dimensionally better than the Mustang tanks and will fit with FAR less work.

Sorry, I had done the research, but never had a chance to actually do an install or one. It is just like installing the Mustang tank, however, there is no frame cutting, and you can run the filler tube out the side so you can utilize the bed while filling up.

RockAuto, most places that have parts for BIG old Fords... Even 57 T-Birds had a very similar tank. Spectra Premium F34A and F34B are the 2 parts that come to mind. Spectra and Rock Auto both have dimensions listed. 59 Fairlane had a F34C, these all would take fitting, but utilizing 2wd mid-tank fillers and hoses, you can do a side of bed mount fairly easy!

Thanks for that link Doug! Not trying to hijack your thread, hotrod, but I'm headed in that direction myself. So is something like this one a consideration? http://raybuck.com/i-6478398-1967-71-je ... -tank.html It's small enough to fit in between the rails and the hanger setup is conducive to a bolt on mounting, with some additional bracketry, and at 10" deep, it won't hang down too far to interfere with the rear end. Available with both side fill and end fill configurations, too. What other considerations would there be concerning sending units, etc, when using a non-Ford fuel tank? I've also considered a side mount tank and some of these Jeep/International tanks looks like they'll fit in the area I'd mount it.

Sending unit ohm parameters may not be compatible with Ford fuel gauge.
