How to remove trim

Post by Joshpow »

Guys I probably got my trim swapped for some stuff I need. My question is can I get the trim off without removing the fenders. I am pulling both the Ranger
bump trim and the rocker trim. I am most concerned bout the back mounts nearest door. Also wondering bout the front mount on bed next to cab. Can those mounts be loosened without removing body panels? I need to save as many trim clips as possible.

Most have a stud at each end, then take a small screw driver and gently pry them off.
If it has the original moulding clips you're probably not going to be able to save very many of them.
They get pretty brittle after 30 or 40 years.

All pieces of trim have a stud-mounted clip on each end and just snap onto plastic clips in the middle. You can get to all the nuts holding the trim ends pretty easily. On the bed, there's a plug in the front inside sidewall to get to the front clip, and you'll have to remove the taillight housing to get to the rear clip. The others (on the fender and cab) can be easily found too.

Its new trim and clips so thats why I am trying to save clips. Biggest concern is dont think the rear stud on fender trim can be got with fender on truck. Am I right?

Yes, you can reach it after opening the door. It's tight, but can be done.
