No Color Code?

Post by colnago »

Gents,

My door plate doesn't list a color code. It's not that it got scratched off or drilled out; it just plain never had anything stamped on the plate. So, what's that mean? I think the original colors were green on top and white on the bottom, which is a pretty standard paint scheme. So, that's what it will become when I get to it, but I'm still curious aboout the missing code.

Thanks,

Joseph

Hello!

I have a 1972 F250 (Ranger XLT) which also does not have a color code number on the VIN tag. What that means (I have been told by the guru's) is that the vehicle was ordered from the dealer with a "special order" color to be applied at the factory. Therefore; the color code area is left blank at the factory. I also have the original keys attached to the "owner's VIN plate" from the factory (separate from the one on the vehicle), which is painted the vehicle color chosen /ordered by the original owner. Kinda cool! 8)

Mine is a canadian-built truck. And, apparebtly, it is not uncommon to have this situation on the VIN tag up here. I don't know for sure whether or not the same applies to US-built trucks. Is yours USA or Canada built?

You also may be able to pull a Marti report for your truck, which would show the factory-applied color....I think.

If your DSO is 6 digit and you have no paint code then your truck was special ordered.

Okay, my VIN tells me that it was manufactured in San Jose, CA, and the DSO does have six digits and it was ordered by Los Angeles, CA. So, what LA department would use green over white? I suppose I could somehow track down the order number (or, as Uncle Boo suggested, get the Marti Report).

Thanks,

Joseph

Part of the DSO is the area and the rest is the specific dealer invoice number.
