Door hinges

Post by bjde0b »

I am beginning the door work.

I don't know if I should replace the pins. Please watch the video and let me know what you think. Very little wiggle.

I am a little timid to take the hinges off the doors. It looks like they were on when the truck was painted. Would the factory have installed the hinges and then paint?

it does seem worn. and wont get any better. they will probably get worse. they do make hinge repair kits. what those kits are . are two brass bushings. and you take the hinge apart. but not out of the door. you then drill out the hinge and drive in the brass bushing. then yo uput the hinge back together with the new pin in the kit. the two door chevys were real bad about the door hinges wearing. because of the weight of the door on the hinge pins. these kits were the original fix for them. or you can buy used hinges and install them and just repaint the hinges.

If I were to buy salvaged hinges, these are the ones I would buy. I am trying to figure out if new hinges had absolutely no wiggle or just a bit. What type of tolerances and clearances they had.
