reflector question.

Post by Joshpow »

my new bed for the ol rustbucket has a strange first for me. the reflectors below the taillights are not there and no holes to mount them. doesnt appear to have ever had any. has side reflector holes but not the ones on bottom of rear above bumper. doesnt appear to have ever had any body work done to account for their absence either. never seen one without the reflectors there unless they been taken off and smoothed. is this normal? by the way its a 68 model ranger bed.

67 and 68 did not have reflectors below the tail lights. that only started in 69 . 67-69 all had the same lower side rear reflectors. http://www.fordification.com/tech/67-72ID_01.htm

Interesting that those rear reflectors are dated 67, though they weren't used til 69.

as you know most ford part numbers are engineering numbers. or casting numbers. the numbers are of when the mold of the parts was made. they just made the molds ahead of time.

67 didn't have lower rear side reflectors. 68 and 69 did though. one of the reasons i like the 67s. they didn't have a bunch of stuff bolted all over them.

Those might be the SAE numbers on those reflectors.

"Way back when" you could tell the year of a vehicle by checking the taillights, turn signals, etc., by the SAE numbers on the lenses.

It's probably a pretty good bet that those were used on some 67-model vehicle, and then used again on the pickups. It was about that time that they quit changing lenses on everything every model year.

that is true. i didnt think of that. some of the orange reflectors you see listed for 67 trucks but never see on the trucks almost never. were also used on econoline vans.
